Multi-Entity Urban Fiber Deployment
Project Scope
19 Small Cell Nodes and High-count fiber placement through Seattle's dense urban core, requiring simultaneous coordination across multiple city agencies, utility stakeholders, and property owners. The project involved navigating Seattle's complex underground utility environment while maintaining active traffic management and meeting carrier network build milestones.
Key Challenges
- Permit coordination across Seattle DOT, Seattle City Light, Office of the Waterfront and multiple private utility companies
- Active underground utility conflicts requiring real-time rerouting decisions
- High-traffic downtown corridor with restricted construction windows
- Multiple property owner agreements required for access
Outcome
All 19 nodes delivered on the original program schedule. Zero missed milestones. Carrier acceptance testing passed on first submission across all nodes. The permit closeout package — covering all six agencies — was delivered within 5 business days of final node activation.
Holiday Sprint — 5 Small Cell Nodes Placed and 3 Miles of Fiber Placed
Project Scope
The carrier had a contractual network activation date of July 4th for five small cell nodes — non-negotiable. A window that left no margin for permitting delays, weather, or crew availability issues. The 3-mile route crossed directly through downtown Bellevue, required HDD under two major arterials, and included a 2-mile segment through an active commercial district with strict holiday construction restrictions. The City's July 4th festivities compressed the back half of the schedule by nearly two weeks.
Key Challenges
- Hard holiday deadline with zero schedule flexibility
- Accelerated permit timeline requiring daily agency follow-up
- Multiple crew mobilization and equipment staging on compressed notice
- Tight splicing windows which required splicing crews on standby
Outcome
Final fiber pull completed on July 1st — three days ahead of the hard deadline. OTDR testing and splice documentation delivered July 14th. Five small cell nodes activated July 2nd as contracted. The project came in on budget despite the mid-project restructuring.
